Buick Has High Hopes for TourX

Two new Buicks for 2018 are the 2018 Regal Sportback and the 2018 Regal TourX. The latter is set to be Buick's first wagon in decades, although the American manufacturer maintains that it is a "crossover".

Buick has high hopes for their latest releases. Buick has even raised their sales forecasts for the Regal TourX to 50 percent of all Regal sales this year, according to a report by Automotive News. This is nearly double the previous forecast of 30 percent.

While there's no stopping Buick from aiming high, it won't come as a surprise if they fell well short of their goal. Buick's U.S vice president of marketing, Phil Brook, has stated that they have received "pretty good feedback" on the TourX, as well as on their other latest models.

It would be quite an achievement should Buick achieve their target. The United States car market typically shies away from station wagons. Car manufacturers looking to sell family-oriented models often go with crossovers or saloons. For a wagon to try and penetrate a market long dominated by such car types would be a tall order to say the very least.

The 2018 Regal TourX is part of Buick's so-called "white space" strategy where the company targets segments that are not as catered to by other companies and therefore, they would have less competition. This is also in line with their previous statement that they want a "piece" of the Subaru Outback market. Their plan has been successful so far as consumers are actually starting to cross-shop the TourX with the likes of the Mazda CX-5, the Regal Sportback, and the Subaru Outback.

Buick's all-new Regal TourX will be available at local dealers with a starting price of $29,995 for the standard all-wheel drive.
