Lincoln Continental to have suicide doors
The Lincoln Continental is probably the best luxury car in the world that no one is going to buy, and it just got arguably better: it is set to receive suicide doors, as per Automotive News.
The news of the luxury car receiving backward-hinged doors at the rear comes after the recent 2018 National Auto Dealers Association Meeting. During said meeting, Lincoln reportedly showcased a new feel: old look for the Continental, now with a suicide-door. Additionally, Lincoln also told dealers to expect the suicide-door model to go into actual production and be sold into the market.
Lincoln is a name synonymous with Luxury, but their cars have lacked any semblance of personality in years. Adding suicide-doors is an experiment that at least would not hurt them one bit should it fail and one that they stand to benefit a lot from if it succeeds.
Lincoln's Continental flagship back in 1961 featured suicide doors. However, the same doors have not been seen again since. Lincoln initially thought of bringing back the suicide doors earlier while deciding the new Continental. However, they later scrapped the idea in favor of more traditional doors. What led them to change their decision remains unknown as of the moment, although lack of sales may be a huge factor.
The sales for the Continental have dropped as much as 30 percent during the first two months of 2018 compared to the first two months of 2017. It's not all bad news for Lincoln, though. While the Continental isn't doing as well as they expected, the new Navigator is helping to pick up the slack, with sales up by as much as 47.9%.
During the first two months of 2018, Lincoln sold as many as 2,351 Navigators. This is a lot more than their sales for Continentals, which stands at 1,573.
