Bobby Rahal Involved with Jaguar’s New Electric Racing Series

Fuel efficiency has auto manufacturers keen on developing performance hybrid vehicles. Jaguar is interested in achieving this by 2020. In this quest, Jaguar has introduced the first world’s production-based hybrid car race that will offer critical changes for the production of Jaguar Hybrid Vehicles.

The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY circuit is set to premiere in December 2018. It will feature 20 Jaguar automobiles with zero-emission and powered by street-legal electric batteries.  According to Jaguar’s Team Racing Director, James Barclay, the race’s announcement was met by excitement and positive reviews. Several teams and drivers expressed interest in participating in the 2018-19 Series with discussions already underway.

Bobby Rahal, legendary race driver and three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500, and IndyCar Champion is the first to formalize discussions with Jaguar. Bobby, alongside his team, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, RLL, is excited about participating in the production-based racing circuit. According to Bobby, innovation in motorsport is critical. RLL’s participation in the eTROPHY series is an opportunity to be at the forefront in making technological advancements possible through testing of vehicles on the racetrack before the full-scale production of hybrid consumer units.

Jaguar’s racing circuit is integral in their quest to develop Jaguar’s first battery-powered electric car, the Jaguar I-PACE. According to Jaguar Land Rover North America’s President and CEO, Joe Eberhardt, consumers will have the chance to own the Jaguar I-PACE in 2018 as they watch teams like Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing demonstrate the exciting performance of the coming generation of battery-powered electric vehicles in the eTROPHY Series.

Jaguar’s eTROPHY Circuit is a welcomed thought in the automobile industry. Its success will be instrumental in the implementation of Jaguar’s Hybrid Car strategy that will see new Jaguar Land Rover automobiles come with an electric powertrain with a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric options.
