Mercedes-Benz will start making pickup trucks
Due to the world’s economic situation, and increased number of car manufacturers, many car companies are expanding their production. For example, the BMW start making small, front drive cars. The situation is similar in the Mercedes-Benz. They will start making pickup trucks. According to some gossip, their first pickup truck should be based on the Nissan Navara. It will be made by Nissan, but Daimler will provide technology and power units (4 and 6 cylinders). Recently, Daimler declined that their truck will be based on the Nissan Navara. Apparently they don’t give comments for their future models!
At this moment, we know that the truck will be designed and developed by the Mercedes-Benz Van division. It should be available on the market before 2020 and it will available in: Australia, Latin America, South Africa and Europe. There are no details that this truck will be available in the US. The deal between Daimler and Nissan is in advanced stage, but they are still working on some details. This industrial partnership should be useful for both companies! If we know that Nissan makes quality vehicles and that Mercedes-Benz technology and engines are very good, this truck should be well made. Due to this, it will have a good market results.
Currently, Daimler has a partnership with Renault-Nissan alliance. They work together on engine development. As the result of this mutual cooperation, we have new models of Smart for Two and Renault Twingo cars. Nissan supplies Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp, Daimler’s Japanese commercial vehicle units. This deal is useful for all three companies. In the future we may expect more industrial partnerships between Daimler and other car companies.
